Health Care teams

As discussed before, Fabry disease can affect several organs and patients with Fabry disease may be referred to different specialists. The doctors may treat with medications to help organs function better. These medications may not be specific to Fabry disease itself, but may be useful in managing how Fabry disease affects the organs. Some doctors have expertise in managing more than one aspect of the condition, whilst others focus on one particular area:

  • Genetic counselors and geneticists who can help with family trees and help approach other family members who might be affected for testing
  • Nephrologists for kidney problems
  • Neurologists for nervous system disorders
  • Pediatricians for children and young people
  • Cardiologists for heart problems
  • Dermatologists for skin disorders
  • Ophthalmologists for eye problems
  • Gastroenterologist for gastrointestinal disorders
  • Psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers who can help with mental health problems
